Resource Churches

It would be great for every diocese to have a Resource Church – and not just one but two or three.”
The Most Reverend Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury

Overview

A Resource Church is a particular category of parish who, in partnership with their Regional Bishop, seeks to resource mission within a region. These parishes have an outlook beyond themselves, seeking (where appropriate and invited) to share programs, expertise, events, and facilities. These parishes have the potential to be involved in church planting or revitalisation, along with offering placements to train mission-minded leaders for the future.

The goal of a Resource Church is to help resource mission across their region and be a catalyst for growth. Resource Churches work closely with PMC staff, along with ministry specialists, to equip themselves with the expertise and resources they need to support and resource other parishes, develop leaders, and potentially plant or revitalise churches.

Current Resource Churches

  • St John’s Cathedral
  • St Bart’s, Toowoomba
  • Robina Anglican Church
  • St Paul’s, Ipswich

These Resource Churches have set targets for the number of churches they are seeking to support and the types of resources they are seeking to share. A model has been developed outlining three levels of parish partnerships and resourcing:

  1. Formal partnerships that may involve arrangements such as MOUs and significant budget implications.
  2. Informal partnerships focused on direct and ongoing relationships with activities, such as intense resource sharing and coaching.
  3. Self-service partnerships where resources are provided on the web and accessed as needed.

In addition to these levels of assistance churches may seek assistance from a Resource Church at any time.

‘He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” ‘ (Matthew 13. 31-32)
